About The Founder

Leticia A. Yankey: A Pioneer in Ghanaian Cocoa Farming
Founder

Leticia, initially a public administration professional, embarked on an unexpected journey into the world of cocoa farming in 2010. Inspired by a friend’s gratitude for her support during his HIV/AIDS diagnosis, Yankey defied societal expectations and ventured into the predominantly male-dominated field of agriculture.

Despite facing initial challenges, her determination and resilience led to the establishment of her own successful cocoa farm. Recognizing the untapped potential of women

in the industry, she formed the Cocoa Mmaa cooperative in 2019. This groundbreaking initiative brought together over 600 women farmers in the Upper Denkyira East district, providing them with training, resources, and support to improve their livelihoods.

Leticia’s commitment to empowering women in cocoa farming extended beyond her local community, she actively participated in international conferences and networks, advocating for women’s inclusion and sustainable practices in the industry.

Her unwavering belief in the power of women’s leadership and her passion for promoting gender equality in agriculture were instrumental in driving positive change.

In addition to her cooperative work, she also founded the Cross Atlantic Chocolate Collective, a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting value addition to cocoa in Africa and the Caribbean. Through this collective, Leticia connected cocoa farmers and chocolatiers from different regions, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

It’s good for the environment, and it’s good for you.
